About us
The Clock Tower Sanctuary
The Clock Tower Sanctuary has been operating since November 1997.
In this time we have been able to help over 1200 young people who have made thousands of contact visits with us over this period.
Many young people have been saved from sleeping in shop doorways, carparks and under Brighton Pier through signposting to relevant service providers for places in night shelters and hostels and, in some cases, secure Council accommodation.
The Clock Tower Sanctuary, a voluntary organisation and registered Charity, is Christian in inspiration and supported both spiritually and financially by Churches in Brighton and Hove.
Funds are raised through donations from local individuals and organisations, grant making trusts and our own fundraising activities.
Where possible, the Clock Tower Sanctuary integrates volunteers and services users in all areas of its operation.
The Clock Tower Sanctuary has close ties with The Princes' Trust, The New Steps Millennium Volunteers and is a member of the Brighton and Hove Voluntary Sector Forum.
Aim of The Clock Tower Sanctuary
Helping young and hidden homeless
The Clock Tower Sanctuary is committed to the empowerment of socially disadvantaged and often excluded young people and to Equal opportunities for all our service users. We respect the uniqueness of an individual and believe that warmth and support from one person to another can achieve positive change.
Through our commitment to self empowerment, we believe that given support and encouragement to take responsibility for themselves and their actions, we can help our service users overcome their problems and live fulfilled and fruitful lives.
Local churches
Working with local churches
The genesis of this small but thriving Charity can be traced back to a small group of concerned Christians who began to meet in the Parish Room of the Sacred Heart Church, Hove in response to the growing needs of young homeless people on the streets of the City. Inspired by Christ’s call to reach out to those who suffer, their vision became a reality as the Drop-in Centre literally opened its doors in 1997 onto the streets of Brighton to welcome young homeless people into an atmosphere of hospitality, inclusivity and compassion.
